Well he night weaned on his own around 11 months..he was only getting up once a night anyway so I think it was more out of habit than need at that point. As for the rest, I just introduced whole cows milk around 11 months and every week would eliminate one nursing session with giving cows milk. He was only nursing about 4-6 times a day at that point. Then he gave up the before bed session (he never nursed to sleep) and the mornings last another month until he was done. A few things...I never comfort nursed unless it was really necessary...so I used other methods for comfort and he wasnt really into comfort nursing anyway. Plus he never nursed to sleep for naps or bedtime. Every baby is different and I was prepared to nurse up to 18 months before I would really try to wean him. This gentle parent led weaning worked for us since I dont really believe in a cut off at one year. Also I still hold him and give him a bottle instead of just giving it to him, so he still feels some connection. Most babies dont naturally wean before 18 months to 2 years and I think my babies personality was suited to it (no need for comfort nursing). Kellymom.com has great resources for parent led weaning though they lean towards child led weaning. Good luck!
That is so sweet:) I also think it is awesome that he will still let you hold him while giving him a bottle, Teddy won't. But different personalities and all that jazz I guess :D
Your welcome, Anon! I didnt think I would either but the closer it got to one year, I was ready to keep going until my absolute limit of 18 months but he and my supply decided otherwise!
Ash, Yes, he still loves to cuddle and I think its in part that he's still rather clumsy holding it...my grandma was surprised he didnt hold his own bottle. He can pat and rub a boob like nobody's business but holding a bottle was only learned very recently, lol! though I suspect it may change now that he's in daycare...the ladies told me he will watch what the other babies are doing and want to hold it himself like they do.
I like...quoting lyrics, the number 5, getting lost in a book, watching people interact, jewelry and other shiny objects, red wine, newborn babies, dancing, anything red, true talent, the rain, the change of the seasons, frost on the trees, watching my husband sleep, and words.
I'm a lot of things...woman, wife, daughter, American, counselor, teacher, friend, musician, human.
